Levo is constructing an expansion of our pilot this winter. We will be installing new hydroponics at Proyecto Marcos Sanchez. Proyecto Marcos Sanchez is a community center located in Yabacoa, the county that Hurricane Maria landed in 2017. The community we are serving was without power for up to 9 months after the hurricane. Proyecto Marcos Sanchez was created to provide services in anticipation of another hurricane in the future, providing health care, food distribution, and communications in the event of natural disasters.
In addition to building hydroponics for the Project, Levo volunteers will also help with the repair and build-out of the facilities, which were damaged and abandoned over the last five years. The hydroponics will be used to grow vegetables, teach community members about hydroponics, and create an important and reliable revenue for PMS programs.
